Sasthi is the 6th Day of this 10 day long Durga Puja festival. Durga Puja is the biggest and the greatest festival of the Bengalees. Normally it is celebrated during autumn in September or October every year. Bengalees all over the world celebrate this festival with great joy. Beautiful idols of the Gods and Goddesses are created and they are worshipped every day for 4-5 days until Dashami when the idols are immersed in river or lake water. Durga Ma is the main goddesses in this festival, she along with her children Ganesh, Karthikeya, Lakshmi and Saraswati are also worshipped during this time. Along with them can also be seen are Asura and a lion, which is the vehicle of Durga Ma. During these days the gods and goddesses are worshipped with great pomp and purity.
Sasthi, or also known as Maha Sasthi is the sixth day of this ten-day festival and most pujas and worshipping of the gods and goddesses get started from this day onwards. People buy a lot of new clothes and ornaments for this event and they start wearing those from this day and go out for pandal hopping and for viewing the different kinds of beautifully decorated pandals and idols.
